A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation

利物浦的三人樂團The Wombats在Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts結識;你可以將他們的音樂類型歸為pop punk,但是越聽越會發現他們不只是這樣而已.從"Kill The Director"這首讓我認識他們的衝勁十足單曲(據說這首歌和The Holiday這部電影有關),到最近有點至敬意味的可愛歌曲"Let's Dance to Joy Division",The Wombats不只是爽快的的唱出了心情,也將這些情緒帶進了聽著的腦中迴旋.
A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation專輯中有許多出色的歌,不過最讓我impressed卻是一首有點抒情的哀傷小品"Here Comes The Anxiety".這首歌所講的焦慮可不是一些社會或責任的焦慮感,而是對於愛情(可能這樣會比較容易被接受!?)“I’d say that this is darkest song I ever wrote,”歌詞的第一句就這麼的說了,我們也準備好心情要來聽這個好像會很慘的故事.“I hope that no one ever leaves/ ’cause I don’t wanna be alone with me/ not with the things that rush up and down this infant spine.Here comes the love anxiety/ Can’t let it grab a hold of me/ Not after last time.”對那個女孩的悲忿語氣中帶著害怕孤獨的焦慮感,怎麼都無法抹去現在已經害怕去愛的孤寂.

Keane covers Queen

Keane上個月底發行的單曲The Night Sky收了一首還不錯的cover, Queen和David Bowie的"Under Pressure".這首被翻唱過無數次的歌,Keane的版本不能說非常出色,但也還很值得一聽!

Joshua Tree deluxe remastered

U2的經典專輯Joshua Tree發行二十年後的2007,推出了Joshua Tree的deluxe remastered版本.內容除了一張是remastered CD之外還有一張則收錄了b-sides和demos,再加上一張DVD.不過這其中最受注目的卻是一首花了二十年才正式錄製的歌"Wave Of Sorrow".
在U2的facebook頁面上有了一段Bono談及這首歌的片段.

James McAvoy as Kurt Cobain??

最近好萊塢有個甚囂塵上的消息,一部Kurt Cobain的傳記電影將要開拍,而飾演Kurt的人則是近來在好萊塢炙手可熱的蘇格蘭演員James McAvoy.
James McAvoy 在去年獲獎無數的The Last King of Scotland中大放異彩,接著又演出Starter for 10 裡很nerdy的英國青少年,而再來的Becoming Jane中所演的Jane Austen情人的角色是讓他真正在好萊塢受到注目(台灣好像有要上映!?).James McAvoy 演技之純熟讓我更加期待Atonement,這部由Ian McEwan同名小穿改編的電影(當然Keira Knightley也是吸引我的原因之一).
回到Kurt Cobain的電影來說,如果真由James McAvoy來演出我認為有點太過理想了.論外表或演技的話,James是絕對有辦法勝任這個角色,但我還是比較傾向可以找個新演員或是觀眾比較不熟的面孔吧!

Neptune City,一個過去曾經繁華的New Jersey城市.在Neptune City長大的Nicole Atkins從小就開始收集這個城市中所有的故事,不管是她身邊的人或是活在那個她所嚮往的過去的人們所經過的狀況與生活.
13歲那一年,Nicole Atkins拿起了已經過世的叔叔所留下的吉他,自己摸索學會了一首Grateful Dead的歌.她的父親也帶她認識了一些玩音樂的朋友,她也在到North Carolina唸藝術時加入了另類鄉村樂團Los Parasols.直到她在紐約的anti-folk圈找到了自己的音樂,Nicole開始了自己早已累積多年的創作.
Nicole Atkins時而迷幻,又帶一點鄉村而且又很懷舊的音樂就像是從一集Six Feet Under裡所選出來的,在製作人Tore Johansson(Franz Ferdinand, OK Go, Saint Etienne, New Order)的協助下,Neptune City聽來完全不像是現在的New Jersey的聲音,而是過去那個輝煌歷史的原聲帶.
Nicole Atkins的歌經常都是講述了某個美麗的悲劇,這位神秘的說故事者用她溫暖又力道十足的深厚嗓音將我們拉回到過去的時空;聽著故事中主角的情緒,自己的心情也無法自拔的隨之波動.
